Well...Its been a long time. Lot of things have happened. Lot of thoughts had gone through my mind. And I had jotted down some of them wherever it was possible to do so. But right now I cannot find any of them. Just one thought is there in my mind now and I am going forward with that....
It is marriage. Firstly this is not "Chetan Bhagat - 2 States" inspired. This is my own thoughts. And of course for me to have some thought it should come after watching some movie. So this time it was "The Proposal". In that movie Ms. Bullock has to save her arse from being deported by saying she is going to marry her assisstant. The immigration department does not believe that. So they check on them. I was just thinking that if the same situation has risen in India the question of legitimacy of that marriage would not be questioned and voila we don not have a story there for the Indian audience. India is the land of arranged marriages! The movie ends flat....KABOOM.
When I talk about India, I am not talking about the entire India. I am particularly referring to the villages, backward lands et al. The game of dowry and arranged marriage is to an extent going down in the metro areas and the zones with high literacy rate.....exception KERALA. I am coming to that. Because Kerala is the only place to which I can relate to, so I am going to explain through the eyes of the Kerala state.
They boast to others that their state has the highest literacy rate in India. But this is the state which still practises the dowry system and arranged marriage with zest and high levels of enthusiasm. Some familes practise dowry system in such a manner the girls family wage a money battle with the other members from the same family. And I have seen the amounts go up to about 3+ crores for a middle class family. And the worst part of it, the parents select the girl for the boy or vice versa. If the girl/boy has a lover or likes someone...it will be a run for bury the guy/girl in your mind. And this is the state where making love/having sex is still considered a taboo..even if the couple is married. The place is sick. The people are sick. They act like they are still in the id stage.
But there is one area where changes have been recorded over the past few years. Divorces and live-in relationships. Once it was like if you are married that is it...kaput....don't move from there. But now there is divorce, live-in relationships....and what next. Yes, there is a downside to it, if things are left to happen as it comes...but it is young guys or girls life. The parent is not going to lead the family life with the girl or the boy after the marriage. So naturally, it is the person who is going to marry who has to decide the future for himself/herself.
Well...thats it...Iam running out of ideas and words...So I am ending it abruptly here.
Adios.
