Oscar Fever

February 22nd cometh and the winners will be announced. The big day for all the people in the movie industry  i.e. Hollywood. No, no don't get me wrong. I don't hate foriegn films. In fact, I love them. But this is not the right time to talk about them as this event is solely for shwoing of the shiny little arse of Hollywood. Well, all said about that let me get down to business.

The major disappointment this time for the public after announcing the nominees ( was there ever happy endings in this case...I doubt that ) is that The Dark Knight and WALL-E wasn't seen in any of the major categories. Major categories goes by the names of Best Motion Picture, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Writing/Screenplay written directly for the screen.

First let me start with WALL-E. WTF is there in that movie? A robot going after his lover/friend or whatever. After watching the animation I was left with a hollow feeling. Nothing. There was no emotion in me to show appreciation or disgust for the movie. There is a very good theme and there are some light moments and memorable moments. But, the movie is DEPRESSING. If I sit and watch this movie again alone, I will get some depresso-dilemma. If one wants to see what a true animation can achieve, try watching the GHIBLI animations..oh yeah I promised that I won't be discussing foriegn films in this post. More about Ghibli soon.

Then the much overrated TDK. I know that this remark could help me bury myself in the offensive verbal attacks from all junctions. For me, TDK is overrated. I do accept The Joker and the technical side of the film and the script ( to some extent ) was above par. And it has got the recognition for all those ( 8 nominations including one for Heath Ledger ...may his soul R.I.P ). So why the fuss over the fact that it didn't get any nominations for major categories. Just taking a look at the other movies that are in for the so called major categories are running high in all the departments. Be it the screenplay, acting , and the techinical side. So, according to me it is only fair that TDK didn't get nominations for the so called major categories. Moreover, there are no major categories here. All the aspects of film-making is equally IMPORTANT!
